Raven

Almost three months had elapsed, during which, limited to our own company, we had encountered only the desirable caribou or the hated wolf; now the raven which circled croaking over our heads was a welcome sight. Not for nothing does the Inuk wandering in the barrens greet him with a cheerful ‘Tulugaq, tulugaq’ (Raven!); and his statement that where a raven is to be seen there are also people in the vicinity is certainly true. Ahead of us lay the water sky we had been seeking for so long and from behind the last headland Depot Island finally emerged.
