Longhead Dab, Limanda proboscidea

A long, pointed head characterizes this Arctic flounder, with a crest behind the eye, and a small mouth. Its lateral line has an ovious bend, above the pectoral fin, reminiscent of a speed bump. Its body shape is typical of all righteye flounders and individuals reach a maximum length of 41 cm. Its dorsal fin rays number 62–74, anal rays 46–53 and pectoral rays 9–13. The eyed side is a light grey or olive brown with dark speckles, while the blind side is bright yellow.

Specimens have been caught from the Sea of Okhotsk in northern Asia to Bathurst Inlet, NWT, at depths ranging from 10–125 m. Nothing else is known about its biology.
