Small Black Pond Creature
This is a small black inhabitant of rocky ponds and lakes in higher terrain. It lives at the bottom of a few select lakes, where it either crawls along the bottom or swims with a "butterfly stroke" at the surface. It has a tail (referred to by its name), a hard carapace, and may have a small pair of legs. It is greatly feared. Drinking water from ponds in the hills was discouraged, in case one should accidentally swallow a pamiulik. In this case, it was said, the creature would live inside one's stomach and eat one's entrails, eventually causing death. Fortunately, however, boiling water kills the pamiulik and renders it safe to drink.
